Prior to getting chosen into the NFL in 2017, Patrick Mahomes, the son of former Major League Baseball pitcher Pat Mahomes Sr., competed in baseball and football for Whitehouse High School and Texas Tech. He was crowned the NFL’s Most Valuable Player in 2018, and after his third professional season, he was named the Super Bowl MVP in 2020. Later that year, he signed a 10-year deal with the Kansas City Chiefs,
which was allegedly for $503 million and set a new franchise record. Mahomes, who is engaged to be married to his high school sweetheart Brittany Matthews and is expecting their first child, is also an outspoken advocate of a number of charitable and social justice organizations. Early Childhood and Education
Patrick Lavon Mahomes II was born on September 17, 1995, in Tyler, Texas, and is the son of former Major League Baseball pitcher Patrick “Pat” Mahomes Sr. and event director Randi Martin Mahomes. (Pat and Randi are now divorced, but they continue to be “friends.”) Because Pat played for various Major League Baseball clubs throughout the course of his 11-year professional baseball career, the family spent a lot of time in apartments and hotel rooms in the towns where he played. The younger Mahomes, who is mixed, has said that he is “happy to be Black” as well as “proud to have a white mother, too.”
By his junior year, Mahomes was the starting quarterback at Whitehouse High School in Whitehouse, Texas, where he also excelled in baseball. Despite the fact that he threw for 4,600 yards and 50 touchdowns with just four interceptions during his senior year, college recruiters believed he had a baseball future. Following high school, the Detroit Tigers selected Mahomes in the 37th round.

After turning down the offer, Mahomes enrolled at Texas Tech in 2014 and continued to play baseball on the premise that he would enter the MLB draft again in the future. After achieving success as a starter on the football team during his sophomore season, he decided to change his emphasis and stop playing baseball. Mahomes ultimately elected to miss his senior year at Texas Tech in order to join the NFL draft, but he still finished his collegiate career as the third-leading passer in terms of passing yards, touchdown passes, attempts, and completions. Mahomes was selected by the Kansas City Chiefs as the 10th overall first-round choice in the 2017 NFL Draft. He made his professional football debut and first start against the Denver Broncos in December of the same year. In 2018, he became just the second quarterback in NFL history to throw for 50 touchdowns and 5,000 passing yards in a single season, earning him the title of NFL Most Valuable Player. Mahomes was the first Chiefs player to earn the league MVP award after leading the club to a 12-4 record.
In February 2020, Mahomes made his Super Bowl debut, and the Kansas City Chiefs went on to win the title against the San Francisco 49ers by a final score of 31-20. Following his selection as the MVP of Super Bowl LIV, he agreed to terms with the Kansas City Chiefs on a 10-year deal for up to $503 million, which was the most costly contract in sports history at the time.
For the second year in a row, Mahomes and the Chiefs have earned a berth in Super Bowl LV, which will take place in 2021. They were defeated by Tom Brady and the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, 31-9, in the NFC Championship Game.

In July 2020, Mahomes starred in a viral Black Lives Matter video, in which he was joined by other NFL players including as Saquon Barkley, DeAndre Hopkins, Odell Beckham Jr., Ezekiel Elliott, and Deshaun Watson, among others, in which they denounced police violence and urged for change. “I understand my platform,” he said in a GQ story published in August 2020.
The fact that I’m in the midst of contract negotiations, with the goal of being a Kansas City Chief for the foreseeable future, didn’t deter me from saying something I believed to be essential and that needed to be stated. It wasn’t something I could just sit back and worry about my next contract because I wanted to utilize my platform to assist others who needed it. Sometimes it isn’t about the money at all. It is not about achieving celebrity status. It all comes down to doing what is right.”

His involvement with NBA star LeBron James’ More Than a Vote group began shortly after, and he has since assisted with voter registration and voter suppression activities. An August post from him invited his more than 1.7 million Twitter followers to email him a screenshot of their registration confirmation, which he received in response.
This past Fall, his 15 and the Mahomies Foundation collaborated with the Chiefs to divide the cost of new voting machines in Kansas City, which will be used in the 2020 presidential election. Observations on My Own Personal Life
Mahomes started dating certified personal trainer Matthews in 2012, while he was a student at Whitehouse High School. The couple has been together since 2012. Even though they were attending different universities, the duo remained friends, with Mahomes attending Texas Tech and Matthews playing soccer at the University of Texas. At Arrowhead Stadium in Kansas City, Missouri, on the same day he was presented with his Super Bowl LIV Champion ring in September 2020, Mahomes proposed to his long-term girlfriend, Matthews.
The pair announced on social media a couple of weeks later that Matthews is expecting their first child, which they eventually revealed to be a daughter. Sterling Skye, their daughter, was born on February 20, 2021, in the United Kingdom.
