I read a few of them.” The sensation of being ‘out of control’ is something you mentioned, and it is something I experience as well. You were feeling out of control, so how did you manage to stop yourself from bingeing? Binging has been an extreme problem for me recently. This is particularly true at night. Why???? Help!”
When I was fourteen, I began bingeing because I felt out of control. Now, a million years later, I’ve finally figured out how to keep binge eating under control even when I’m feeling lonely, unhappy, stressed, or terrified.
One thing that helped me was making lists. Ten years ago, I produced a list of “bad things about binge eating” and a list of “positive reasons to avoid binge eating and purging.” These lists proved to be really beneficial. Towards the conclusion of this essay, I provide links to these listings.

It was after I moved out of my mother’s home that the binge and purging cycle began. At the age of fourteen, I was unable to live with her. A single mother who suffered from schizophrenia, she was also prone to paranoid and suspicious outbursts, which she shared with her son. My personal journals revealed that she was both physically and verbally violent, which I discovered lately. That bit had slipped my mind!
My binge eating did not begin until I moved home with my grandmother, which may have been because my mother had been on assistance for the whole of my childhood and there was no extra food in the house at that time. The food bank was a frequent stop for us, but there was nothing more to eat.
Even with all of the food, there was still not enough to go around! My grandmother’s house had become a sanctuary for me after years of feeling alone and out of control. I began eating out of control when I was approximately 14 years old, and it wasn’t until I was 44 that I figured out how to quit binge eating..

When I went to therapy – which I strongly suggest and am really grateful for having done – it didn’t stop me from bingeing and purging. Nancy, my counselor, was both beloved and despised by me; she assisted me in learning so much about myself. I had a binge eating issue, and she did not “fix” me.

I’m not suggesting that you should pray for a miracle or that God would suddenly intervene and prevent you from bingeing on sugary foods. I’m implying that connecting with Him may make you feel secure, loved, and free – even when you’re feeling out of your depth.
Determine the reason for your desire to quit binge eating.
This is a list of two things that I found to be semi-helpful in helping me quit bingeing: Until I started making these lists, I had no idea how closely binge eating and feeling out of control were related to each other. So “feeling out of control” has been pushed to the very bottom of this list, where it deserves to be.
